Donuts For Days

Debora Manusama-Sinaga

Cupcakes are cute, macarons are pretty, but there's nothing like biting a warm, glazed, fluffy piece of donut. Sounds like "Uhm..." or "Oh.." followed by an endless gushing are usually how I, and I think most normal people, react after that first, sweet bite of the good ol' deep-fried goodness (although a lot people prefer them baked these days). That's why I immediately said yes when Alyssa from Zomato Dallas invited me to a Foodie Meet-up at a donut shop called Glazed Donut Works.

I was about 18 minutes late, due to traffic, but I'm glad that I got there just in time to mingle with bloggers I haven't met before, while sampling Glazed's delicious fall menu.

Pumpkin Old Fashioned - S'mores (they make their own marshmallows!) - Maple Bacon Little John (bacon makes everything better!)

Apple Caramel Cobbler Crunch (amazing!) - Red Velvet (love that I could still taste the cream cheese, people tend to make the icing too vanilla-y) - Turtle

What good are donuts without coffee right? Glazed teamed up with Full City Rooster coffee roasting studio and served us a fall favorite : Pumpkin Spice Latte and my favourite : the one in the picture here, S'mores Latte.

I like details that add character to the store's whole ambience. Oh and I love trying something I've never tried before. Like Donut Grilled Cheese with Bacon!

This easily became my favorite. Period.

The super moist and gooey Fluffernutter right here ruined my lipstick, and I didn't even care! Especially because it was time for us to put our aprons on and get to work!

Yup, some real skills we're learning here, filling and decorating Banana Pudding and Pumpkin Brown Butter Pecan donuts before stuffing our face with them. Glad that nobody got hurt in the process :P We actually had a lot of fun!

At the end of the event, we got to keep the aprons and the chef hats, bring home some Zomato goodie bags, and some donuts!

This was by far the best Zomato meetup I've ever been to. I fell in love with doughnuts all over again, met some interesting new people, and the best part was bringing home a box of donuts to J and Mr.Man. J actually ended up eating 3 donut balls before he fell asleep. Ah..I won't change all this for the world :)

Longhorns, Cowboys, and Ice Cream

Debora Manusama-Sinaga

It's been a little over a year since we moved to Texas, but we had never seen a real cowboy or a real Texas Longhorn until a few days ago on the Labor Day Weekend. We didn't have anywhere else to go to, didn't really feel like going to downtown Dallas either, so we decided to play tourist and visit Fort Worth Stock Yards.

As soon as we drove pass North Main Street and East Exchange Avenue, it was like we were in a different time. We got to see how Texas would look like in the old days. Saloons, bars, and...cowboys. Real cowboys!

We got there just in time for the longhorn cattle drive, which happens twice daily (11.30 a.m. and 4 p.m.). That animal is huge! Wow!

You can take pictures with them too, but I think you'd have to pay for it. I didn't feel comfortable sitting on a huge cow, so I passed that and went to the visitors center instead to get a map and this badge. J loves it.

I found this thing in front of the visitors center interesting because the 4th city they have up here is a city in Indonesia! Didn't know Bandung was Fort Worth's sister city!

We then went to the indoor dining and shopping complex called Stockyards Station to catch a gunfighter show at 11.45 a.m.

It was entertaining and loud! And J was getting sleepy, so we had to feed him before he fell asleep. We decided to try the famous BBQ joint, Riscky's.

I had the BBQ ribs platter with Texas Toast, Green Beans, and Pickles. The ribs were smoky and flavorful, but! They were too dry and therefore stiff! Mr. Man had the BBQ Shrimp and it was probably the best thing to eat here. The briskets are also good and tender. Read the full review on my Tomato here.

I love that they have the "God Bless Texas" written almost everywhere.

And I love the fact that this dude right here was going to have a Monday off, and that we got to stroll around together till J fell asleep. You know what happens when J sleeps right? Yes. Ice cream!!

As I wrote on my previous post about Fort Worth, I love MELT ice creams. Their flavors are so unique and vegan-friendly. Not that I'm a vegan, but I always try to eat less dairy. So this place is perfect! I had the Boozy Buccaneer which is made of pineapple jam and cinnamon-caramel rum. So sweet and summery! A perfect way to 'end' summer (even though the weather will not cool down until Halloween, here in Texas).

30 minutes after Mr. Man and I had enjoyed our ice creams in the car, J woke up. So I decided to get him a scoop of Planet of the Grapes : a vegan sorbet made of dark grapes and mint. So yummy and refreshing, we had to fight over it a little bit.

He won of course, I let him.

Meet Tiffy & Goldies

I have always loved eating out at nice restaurants. Who doesn't like a day-off from cooking, right? (all of my stay-at-home moms say Amen!) haha. However, I don't get to do it very often, because well, it's costly (even if you eat at a fast food restaurant everyday, it's still more expensive than cooking at home!). So when I do go out to eat, I want to eat good food. When I was younger, I went out to lunch/ brunch/ or dinner to talk and to be seen. But now, I come to restaurants to eat, and more importantly to feed my son. So I'm a bit picky with my restaurant choices. I don't go to a restaurant just because it's popular. Because, sometimes, it could be pricy, but the food is so-so (although it has a good ambiance, that still pisses Mr. Man off like crazy!). We try our best to only go to restaurants that are worth going to. Sometimes we fail, because we were being fooled by a review we saw online, written by a person who has a different preference and taste than us. Well, that bounds to happen when you depend on other people's review right? But hey, can't blame them. I also write my own review in this blog every now and then, but I've never considered myself as a food critic. I mean, why would you want to criticize food? Haha. If you don't want to eat it, leave it alone!

Anyways, 2 weeks ago, I was approached by a lady from Zomato. We then met for lunch last week and she invited me to join the app and to write my reviews there. Oh, I thought, why not?! I love to eat, I love to take good photos of what I eat, so let's do this! But I knew I gotta do something different here. I'm not just gonna be another foodie-wannabe in this city. I want to have a 'signature'.

So I came up with Tiffy & Goldies!

terra

They are these bamboo cutleries that I personally dipped in tiffany blue and gold paint. From now on, every food or restaurant-related photos that you see on my blog and my instagram would have these cuties in them.

So what is Zomato, you ask? It's this app that helps you search for restaurants around your neighborhood (or anywhere you like, they have offices in 22 countries already). Unlike Yelp, Zomato has a more elegant design with cleaner layout. It is also more reliable as its team hand-collects each menu from every restaurant that they review, so it does not depend on people (like wikipedia) and therefore is more accurate. They also collect official photos from the restaurants (by permission only).

I am excited to start posting my reviews and photos on the app. If you want to view my profile, follow me, and connect with me via the app, click here.

Bon appétit!

Selamat makan!

Smakelijk eten!

Let's eat!
