Life in DFW

My life as a wife and mom in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and all things fun about it!

Family-friendly Fun at Texas State Fair 2017

Debora Manusama

Hey y'all!! I can't believe the month of October is here!! Now most people might be occupied with costume shopping and home decorating by now, but here in Dallas, we are getting busy celebrating all things Texas at the Texas State Fair!!

The three of us had the chance to come and finally experience this ginormous event last week, during their opening weekend, and oh my gosh! It was overwhelming, in a good way!

We got there on a Saturday morning at around 9.30 am, when parking spots were still pretty easy to find. Why'd we drive you ask? Because parking fee is only $15 and DART tickets for 3 people aren't that much cheaper. But hey, if you're coming during the busy hours, DART would be the best option!

Press play to watch the video below and catch a glimpse of the fun we had at the State Fair :) Oh, and don't forget to subscribe!

Because we're doing this for the first time, with our 4 year old, we didn't want to over do it. So we started at the KidWay area, where you can find kid-friendly rides, games, and of course, FOOD!

We then made our way to the Kids' Boardwalk for story time! They have a farm exhibition, petting zoo, and a tiny house tour that was very interesting (these houses cost only about $17k!).

We tried to take a fun family photo here but J wasn't feelin' haha. We then went to the indoor shopping space called Grand Place. We saw a little cooking demo there and then headed to the Big Tex (that giant cowboy figure I featured in the opening of my youtube video above). After that, we got a little thirsty and hungry, so we got our food coupons and started shopping.

We had the refill-able sweet tea, Williams Chicken's hot wings, chocolate-covered strawberries, crazy fries, and!!! This year's Big Tex Choice Award winner in the Taste-Sweet category : Gulf Coast Fish Bowl. It's a Pina Colada-ish drink with nerds candies in it, very refreshing! We also had the state fair corn dogs and my favorite : Fried Cheesecake-stuffed Apple. It's got the graham cracker crust and everything inside the apple!!

I didn't get the chance to try the funnel cake bacon queso burger (it's this year's Big Tex Choice award winner for Best Taste-Savory and Most Creative!! You should try it!!!). If you want to try the fair delicacies with discounted prices, come on Thursdays for Thrifty Thursdays :)

We concluded our trip with a ride on the Texas Sky, overlooking the Fair Park and everything that's going on below us plus the Dallas skyline. It was super neat! Well it's our third year living here, I think it's safe to say that Dallas is officially home :)

NOW, I'm GIVING AWAY 4 tickets to the State Fair for 2 winners!!! All you have to do is leave a comment on the comment section below and tell me who are you taking to the state fair :)
