I know right. How odd. Why Pad Thai and Dallas? They do not seem to belong in the same sentence. Dallas should be about BBQ and Tex-Mex right? Yeah, you're right. But there's more to Dallas than just than that! They got some good Thai food as well (not many of them tho, unlike L.A or NYC). This one is recommended by D Magazine, and I think it's pretty good.
The name of the place is Bangkok City restaurant, located at 4301 Bryan St around the area that is known as the Old East Dallas.
There aren't that many buildings around, but it's a pretty decent area, considering the City Place is nearby. We got there at just the right time which was 2 o'clock on a Sunday afternoon. Why 2 O'clock? Cause J was taking a 2-hour nap earlier and we had to wait for him to wake up! Anyways, it was a good timing, cause we didn't have to reserve and the restaurant was not that busy.
Casual & neat interior with a touch of modern Thai, this place was far from being pretentious. And the price on the menu reflects so too! Like this gigantic portion of an $11-chicken Pad Thai we had.
Today's modern Asian restaurants tend to 'westernize' the cuisine which affects the price of the menu. But not Bangkok City. They keep it real down here. And this green curry Mr. Man order was also very delicious.
Of course we ended up not finishing the whole thing because we were too full, so we asked for the check (total damage : $26, not bad huh?) and some to-go boxes (we ate the leftover for dinner too that night), then headed home.
The best thing of it all of course to spend the time with these two dudes.
